Stuck In Times

There's a little controversy going on right now about the Los Angeles Times refusing to release a video of Barack Obama at a party. Apparently, the tape could cast Obama in a bad light by showing him associating with some "militant" types (i.e. hardline Arabs). The tape definitely exists, since its contents were described in the LA Times... so the only question becomes why they won't let it be shown. Conservative critics say that the newspaper is obviously withholding the footage because it's damaging and would cause Obama to lose votes. The editors simply claims that they are protecting their source, who doesn't want the tape to be released.

I have no love for the LA Times -- their reporting is almost always biased against both Israel AND George Clooney. But I find it strange that, in this age of dwindling newspaper readership, they're saying no to the obvious publicity that the video would provide. So I tend to believe that the LA Times really is just staying true to their anonymous source. Or maybe they'll mysteriously decide to release the tape after Election Day. One thing I've learned from working in media... is not to trust the media.
