Somehow, over all the holidays this past month, I missed that Levi Stubbs passed away at the age of 72.
Mr. Stubbs had a big influence on me. He was the voice of Audrey II in the 1986 movie version of Little Shop of Horrors, one of the two main reasons I became interested in showbiz. (A musical about a man-eating plant? My ten year-old mind was officially blown.) After seeing it, I became so obsessed with the play that I started religiously reading the Tribune's Friday section, which lead to my fascination with film criticism.
