The President's Volunteer Service Award

Arrived yesterday in the mail:
Apparently, some good citizen nominated my Neighborhood Council board for this award, so we all won. It also came with a letter from el Presidente, plus a snazzy lapel pin (seen on right), which I'm gonna wear just for the opportunity to say "Oh, this little thing? Got it from my good buddy George W., for all my volunteer work. You mean you don't have one?"

The irony is that my tenure on the NC was a period of relative controversy and divisiveness in the community (it made the newspapers!), mostly related to property rights and mansionization issues. But hey, I did help get some good stuff accomplished, such as the re-establishment of Neighborhood Watch and a Community Grants program. So hooray?

In summation: surprise awards from the President = hilariously awesome.
